I have just noticed that when I use Everest Ultimate 3.00.647 to view event logs, some of the logs don't show the description (this is both in the panel and when double clicking on an event) If I go to XP event viewer, there is text there. It seems to be fairly random, for most events Everest does show the description.

Several of the application events don't show the description in Everest.
None of the security events show the description in Everest.
Some (not many) of the system events don't show description in Everest.

A few examples

Application warning none [date] [user] userenv description: blank in Everest, description in XP Event viewer: Windows cannot unload your classes registry file......

Application Information none [date] [user blank] RichVideo description: blank in Everest, description in XP event viewer: The description for Event ID (0) in Source (RichVideo) cannot be found. The local computer may not have....

System Information none [date] [user blank] ApplicationPopup description blank in Everest, description in XP event viewer: Application Popup: SeCEdit.exe: entry point not found.....

System error none [date] [user blank] sr description blank in Everest, description in XP event viewer: The system restore filter encountered the unexpected error.....

I don't know if this was so in earlier versions because I did not look.

Thank you for the bug report. That was a tough one actually, but I think we could fix it up smile.gif

Please upgrade to the latest beta version of EVEREST Ultimate Edition available at:

Let me know how it works.

Thanks,

Almost fixed!

Just one event (that occurs on each boot, I think) does not show description in Everest:
Event Type: Information
Event Source: RichVideo
Event Category: None
Event ID: 0
Date: 15/07/2006
Time: 12:54:13
User: N/A
Computer: D6PH5R0J
Description:
The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( RichVideo ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: Service started.

Should have added: RichVideo.exe comes with Cyberlink PowerDVD 7
Not sure of its function; It is in C:\Program Files\CyberLink\Shared Files

PS I've done a bit of googling.

CyberLink RichVideo

Introduction and Benefits
CyberLink RichVideo is an advanced technology designed to save precious video editing time by storing initial video analysis for future references. For example, the first time you detect scenes or perform Magic Cut, video analysis information will be collected and stored, eliminating the process to be repeated again. Not only is a tremendous amount of time saved, the video information will be stored directly into the video file, and thus available for all users.
RichVideo Technology
Developed by CyberLink, CyberLink RichVideo technology coincides with new product releases enabling it to be utilized by other award-winning CyberLink applications. As we gravitate towards the digital home generation, video analysis will be at the forefront of video editing, with RichVideo playing a vital role in the development of multimedia software by reducing editing time and arduous workload.
CyberLink RichVideo is activated the first time after detecting scenes or performing Magic Cut. Information will be saved from video analysis in a separate data file or write to the file directly. Later, it is retrieved automatically when conducting similar actions.

As I don't do any video editing with Cyberlink software I don't think I need this service running, so will disable it. This has no effect on the PowerDVD player functionality.

However you mightv still want to fix Everest's ability to show the description of this type of event.

I'm sorry, but when Event Viewer cannot find the description, it means description cannot be found and so cannot be displayed wink.gif

Hence EVEREST works just fine on your system.

OK I had not understood the description in XP event viewer as meaning that there was no description :-)
