Just one quick correction, and this isn't even a bug. Just a spelling mistake in the new detailed optical drive info section.

The official spelling for the name of the packet writing technology for using rewriteable optical media like floppy disks is Mount Rainier.

See this Wikipedia article, or this screen shot from Nero InfoTool.

I love EVEREST (I use it every day as an IT Technician who is out in the field a lot), so anything to make it more perfect would be a welcome addition. smile.gif

Don't worry about it Fiery! All the hours you spend on EVEREST and its improvements make up for an occasional late-night spelling mistake. wink.gif

I'm not sure if your drives implement firmware date information. Please copy-paste the full content of the Storage / Optical Drives page (for each drive) into this topic; and also copy-paste the results for the ODD SPTI Dump. You can create such dump by right-clicking on the bottom status bar of EVEREST main window --> Disk Debug --> ODD SPTI Dump.

Thanks,

Probably easier to attach the two files., though if you really prefer copy/paste I can of course do that.

Thanks, it was perfect that way too smile.gif However, I can't see any traces of firmware date information in your dumps... Does Nero InfoTool or DVDInfoPro display any firmware dates?

Thanks,

No. Nero info tool has Date: ? for firmware on both drives.

DVD info pro does not mention firmware date for either drive.

So I conclude it's not available.

I know that the firmware version is the latest available for both drives, and as they are rather old models, I don't expect here will be any updates.

No matter.

We've done some research, and as it turns out, almost none of the DVD manufacturers use the standard method (defined in MMC spec) of storing the Firmware Date in the firmware sad.gif So we'll need to come up with several workarounds, almost one per manufacturer... So it will take some time to show Firmware Date for all drives that support it.

We'll keep posting new betas into this topic.

We've updated the Firmware Date and the Buffer Size detection parts. Now it can show the Firmware Date of the following optical drive makes:

- Hitachi-LG
- Lite-On
- NEC
- Pioneer
- Plextor
- Sony
- Teac
- Toshiba
- Toshiba-Samsung

Latest beta version of EVEREST Ultimate Edition is available at:

http://www.lavalys.c...dqwekn6fs2a.zip

We need some more ODD SPTI Dumps, from the following manufacturers:

- 4KUS
- AOpen
- Asus
- BenQ
- BTC
- CyberDrive
- Gigabyte
- HP
- Matsushita (Panasonic)
- Memorex
- Mitsumi
- MSI
- Nu Tech
- Optiarc
- Optorite
- Philips
- Ricoh
- QSI
- Toshiba-Samsung
- Waitec
- Yamaha

ODD SPTI Dump can be created by right-clicking on the bottom status bar of EVEREST main window --> Disk Debug --> ODD SPTI Dump. Any help about the listed drive makes would be appreciated.

Thanks for the updated dumps. Your Liteon DVD-ROM does not implement a firmware date or serial number information in the firmware.

Works like a charm!

Perhaps a note about my last drive, it's a virtual drive provided by Alcohol 120%. Should something like "Virtual Drive" be added?

These days virtual optical drives use a random device description, hence it'd be quite tough to detect if they're virtual drives...

Here's some info from some drives I had laying around

Generic no-name DVD-RW

[attachmentid=315]

Ancient HP CD Writer

[attachmentid=316]

Ancient LG CD-ROM

[attachmentid=317]

Virtual Clone Drive fake CD/DVD

[attachmentid=318]

Ancient Creative CD-ROM

[attachmentid=319]

Pretty new NEC DVD-RW drive

[attachmentid=320]

Laptop Hitachi DVD drive

[attachmentid=321]

Nice LG DVD-RAM drive

[attachmentid=322]

Low-profile Sony DVD drive

[attachmentid=323]

Daemon Tools 4.03HE fake drive

[attachmentid=324]

Ancient Memorex CD drive

[attachmentid=325]

That's all of them I think. I've standardized on the NEC DVD-RW drives here so I've got multiples of that
