Hi Fiery,

I'm using Everest 4.50.1330
I wonder how everest determines tjmax to be 105C for e8400, or is this just assumed. (I and many others have not been able to find any intel specs saying so)

I'm asking because the core temps reported seem to be 10C high and I know these are calculated from (tjmax - dts)

The author from the program realtemp did some testing by using an ir-temp gun on his e8400 and concluded from that test that tjmax should be 95C and this would much better match my idea of the temps I'm getting.

I don't know if you have followed the realtemp discussion, but here is a link if you haven't. good stuff. http://www.xtremesys...d.php?p=2809778

perhaps it's possible to make tjmax adjustable in the prefs between 85-95-105C or to just assume 95C, or like speedfan allow for an offset for the dts?

best regards, Darkje

EVEREST detects Tjmax value using MSR Register 0xEE. It's the standard method for Intel Core 2 processors.

On several systems even using 10 Celsius lower Tjmax would still result unrealistically high core temperatures, so we believe Wolfdale processors simply have a broken temperature diode that provides wrong readings.

Quick as always, thanks! good job on that!

Well the idle temps could be off, but it seems from the practical tests done at XS by uncleweb that the last 35 or so deg C to tjmax are quite accurate. Of course if the cpu never gets in that range the readings at load could also be off. There are indeed also some with broken or stuck sensors, but mine are fine, except for many programs including my favorite everest wink.gif reporting 10c high coretemps.

Realtemp can compensate for the idle temps, but it seems quite realistic without any idle compensation on my e8400 using tjmax=95c.

There seems to be no actual intel documentation stating that MSR 0xEE can be interpreted as being 105c on the of e8series? can you provide a link if you know of any? that would be very interesting.

I'm not asking that you mimic realtemps idle compensation, because I realize that's where it gets vague, but it would be nice for advanced users if tjmax could be offset in the prefs, if they really feel that the (load)temps are wrong.

best regards, Darkje

I am getting weird temp readings with my Q9450 too. Everest is using a TjMAX of 105 and RealTemp is using 95.

I guess it would really help if TjMAX was adjustable manually at least from Preferences.

Such documents (BWG, BIOS Writer's Guide) are only available under NDA, so we cannot publish them, and you cannot download it from the internet.

Although we don't recommend to use a custom Tjmax temperature, we've implemented Tjmax temperature configuration in EVEREST / main menu / File / Preferences / Hardware Monitoring.

Make sure to upgrade to the latest beta version of EVEREST Ultimate Edition available at:

http://www.lavalys.c...xc2vnt5yswr.zip

After upgrading to this new version, make sure to restart Windows to finalize the upgrade.
