Two cpus, but only one real cpu!

Hi Fiery, i got a possible bug on a friend's system that is showing two cpus, but only one real cpu on the mainboard.

The system has been acting up from new 4 months ago and has been in the shop twice for testing, but no fault found, to me the memory seems to be overclocked acording to the memory latency test, setting ram to SPD or Manual (Cas 3.0-3-3-8) gets the same result (Cas 3.0-3-2-6), also he tried other ram with a similar result!

It is most likely a faulty VIA Apollo PT800 Northbridge chipset (90% sure), but i would confirm with you, just in case its a bug in EVEREST v1.51.195!

Hi Fiery, Chris has run the latest EVEREST v2.00.283 Beta and it is still showing 2 cpus in a mainboard that only has 1 cpu socket!

I don't see any issues there. HyperThreading processors have 2 virtual processors "inside", called HyperThreading Units.

There is no problem with Everest now, however can anyone explain why the memory latency test is showing the ram at an overclocked spec?


Either set the memory by SPD or manual (3.0-4-4-8)

Memory timing values for PT800 are completely off, so we disabled that feature for PT800 until we can get the information we need to make that routine accurate.

Hi Fiery, thankyou again, i did not think it was a bug in Everest, that was causing the issue, as it does not explain why the system has been so unreliable from day 1, Chris has only been using Everest for about a month or so now.

Anyway i have told him to invest in a brand name dimm (Crucial) that is known to work with his Abit VI7 mainboard, rather than a no-name generic dimm, as i know Abit's mainboards a very picky with ram in general.

Fiery you may remember me, same username as before, as i was 1 of the last few people you serviced with Aida32, just as you switched to Lavalys.

Crucial RAM might help, but also make sure to use an at least 350W PSU from respected vendor too.

We'll work on the PT800 memory timing issue, and it will definiately be put back to EVEREST, but first we need to get a PT800 board to test/evaluate.

Hi Fiery, sorry about the delay, Chris had already RMAed the system to his supplier, when he got a replacement back, he run build_0295 and then the current beta version and both versions of Everest now work perfectly as it should!

Also as a bonus his system also works perfectly too.
